Practicing Ayush treatment
in one of the oldest methods in India is about 5000 years old. One of the
earliest civilizations at Harappa it was practiced, as per the statement by Dr.
Nirmal Mazi, Chairperson of West Bengal Biodiversity.
There are about 45000
botanical species out of which 15000 species are medicinal plants.
Ayush guidelines are in
'Ather Ved' which is about 1516 BC.
Cultivation of medicinal
plants is part of our Agriculture Science. Now there is a separate Ministry of
our Government of India.
The agriculture extension
program is given importance.
The nursery, gardens are
this medicinal plants are there.
Yoga is part of this
Ministry, it is now Worldwide practicing this 'Asana'.
Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy,
Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy are under the Ayush Ministry of the Government of
India.
In the state of West Bengal,
the Government Hospital Ayurveda and Homeopathy treatment are available

Ministry of Ayush have made “Ayush
Sanjivani” mobile application
for understanding the measures adopted by public for enhancing immunity and
keeping themselves healthy in difficult COVID-19 situation.
COVID-19
has emerged as the global health crisis that poses as the biggest challenge in
front of the entire world. The virus is spreading its wings at an alarming rate
and morbidity and mortality are also a matter of concern globally. Apart from
the health sector, the pandemic has also impacted us socially and economically.
Ministry’s advisories have suggested measures which may help the public to
remain healthy in pandemic times. The Ministry also published guidelines for
practitioners for the management of this pandemic.

Citizens involvement in
Biodiversity activities in West Bengal
People's
Biodiversity Register is a legal document containing a comprehensive account of
local bio-resources along with related traditional knowledge & practices of
the concerned area of jurisdiction under a Biodiversity Management Committee
(BMC). It also highlights the brief idea of the landscape and demography of the
concerned area. As per Rule 22(10) of the Biological Diversity Rules, 2004, the
preparation of PBR of a particular area is the primary mandate of the concerned
BMC. A standard methodology of the PBR, developed by the National Biodiversity
Authority (NBA) is followed pan India. PBR is being prepared by the BMC in
consultation with the local people.

Some publications on medicinal plants have been published, the
scientific name, local name visual, the which part of the plants are used and
in what symptoms it is used that have
been described.
The locals of our villages are aware of the importance of these
medicinal plants, they pass it on to the next generation, now the visuals
of these plants are available it is much
better awareness to the common people.
