My story

The volunteering activities are much in digital mode. The recruitment of volunteers, staff,  procurement of items, service, movement of volunteers & staff, campaign, accounting, report writing, and communication much on digital mode. The citizens are more using this mode.

The International Organisation are using this system much beforehand but the present pandemic has forced them to those who are not doing one year before.

The meetings, webinars, film festivals, performing art activities, and inauguration of the projects all are in virtual mode, these are some of the practices of the present.

A private group on social media started about 10 years back to promote volunteerism in Red Cross Red Crescent. This group is having members of about 792 they are from 89 countries and 100 cities. The post includes visuals, data, and publications from ICRC and surveys of opinion.

Virtual Volunteering

The above statement is of the 21st century, what was the condition of 50 years back? Our country had an experience of refugees from the neighboring country, we had to arrange for their humanitarian services the International Committee of Red Cross and other donor agencies also helped in this effort.

I was a college student of the age of 21 years. I had noticed the volunteers of the Disaster Training Institute (DTI) of the Indian Red Cross Society in central Kolkata went to help with this work. I learned the art of volunteerism from them and still, I am practicing. The Institute is no more functional. I have still contact with one of the instructors Mr. Kajal Sen, who is at the age of 82years. I have been to so many National level Institutions of the Indian Army, State Bank of India. The mode of instructions at DTI still superimposed to me. Visual of Kajal Sen at Facebook

Support by senior in the Territorial Army

I was aware of Territorial Army (TA), I had applied for TA Commission while I was serving Food Corporation of India, I left this organisation after 6 and 1/2 years. My application for TA Commission was approved by Central Office of State Bank of. India. I got recommissioned in TA in July1983, I was posted to 107 Infantry Battalion,it was located then Jalpahar, Darjeeling. This unit men are from hills mostly Gurkha. In the Indian Army I have the experience to serve with Gurkhas. The Gurkhas from West Nepal are simple and sweet.

I got married in July 1982. We had 2 days reception programs first day at Territorial Army Institute (TAI) at Brigade Parade Ground and next day at my home at Central Kolkata. I had an opportunity to meet Col A K Sanyal, an Officer from Brigade of Guards. He was then It Secretary of TAI.

The TAI was available to me free of charge including guest room.

In 1983 I Was finnancially supported by Dept of Youths Services, Government of India it was promotion of mountain adventure. TAI was available to us free of cost for holding 6 days program.

In May 1984 an Army exhibition was held at Fort William. There were 2 stalls on Bengal's contribution India's freedom struggle and Indian Armed Forces. The first topic was organised by Government of West Bengal. The second one we had organised including Indian National Army (INA).The monochrome visuals were available from Netaji Research Bureau, Kolkata. The statue was available from an organisation of central Kolkata. The audio on Netaji Subash Chandra Bose radio speeches and INA songs was available in the market. The Films Dicision films on Netaji were procured. This may be the first time INA was projected in an Army's program.

National Library during Covid 19 : Readers experience

I am a reader of our National Library since 1967, it is now 54 years, I find it is more difficult to get service before and during Covid 19. Lots of checking points manned by the security personnel, the use of such think is there any system to review?

The change of use of the library during the covid 19 periods is there any posting on that. I am finding a problem regarding online registration, the matter has been brought to the notice of the authority it is now 3 days to get it resolved.

Japanese Film Festival Virtual 2020

I have kept the visuals to remind me of the films. My most liking film is Tora san in Goto, how the family members are doing their share in daily life.

It is a lesson to learn how one can be self-sufficient from childhood, Though some institutional training is there practicing at the family level is worth praising.

0.5mm, ANDO Momoko's absorbing drama at #jff_india.

On the trail of memory NCC

"Pakora", a fried item of Indian snack dish is very popular. I had first tested this item at a canteen of the Indian Army maybe 60 years back inside the Fort William.

This item is taken with tea and much appreciated if it is warm. I was offered this item of course with tea at the NCC Camp which was going on at the NCC Training Institute at Kolkata  Maidan during the afternoon of cold weather. The cadets were having lunch.

NCC is finding a difficult to get a campsite for their training. These cadets of Boys and girls are getting ready for their Republic Day Parade at the Red Road. They must be excited to take part. The National level camp is held at Garrison Parde ground of   New Delhi, it is near to Palm airport. From there they are brought near the President House for practicing and final day parade. The participants have to start to get ready from 4 am.

Earlier tentage was used for living, now built-in accommodation is there. There is occasional rain during this period which creates havoc for the campers.

A had an opportunity to meet a cadet of Army, Junior boys division, it is his 2nd year of NCC training he is holding Battalion Havilder Major (BHM) rank, this rank badge is at the right wrist.
60 years back the Havilder was the.highest rank of a Junior division.

I was detailed in 1969, I was a senior division cadet for arranging publicity with one lady ANO of Senior Division who was with us. Akashvani Kolkata, News Section deputed their representative for their newsreel program, the program executive was Upen Tarafder, recently he expired at Kolkata.
