On the trail of memory NCC

"Pakora", a fried item of Indian snack dish is very popular. I had first tested this item at a canteen of the Indian Army maybe 60 years back inside the Fort William.

This item is taken with tea and much appreciated if it is warm. I was offered this item of course with tea at the NCC Camp which was going on at the NCC Training Institute at Kolkata  Maidan during the afternoon of cold weather. The cadets were having lunch.

NCC is finding a difficult to get a campsite for their training. These cadets of Boys and girls are getting ready for their Republic Day Parade at the Red Road. They must be excited to take part. The National level camp is held at Garrison Parde ground of   New Delhi, it is near to Palm airport. From there they are brought near the President House for practicing and final day parade. The participants have to start to get ready from 4 am.

Earlier tentage was used for living, now built-in accommodation is there. There is occasional rain during this period which creates havoc for the campers.

A had an opportunity to meet a cadet of Army, Junior boys division, it is his 2nd year of NCC training he is holding Battalion Havilder Major (BHM) rank, this rank badge is at the right wrist.
60 years back the Havilder was the.highest rank of a Junior division.

I was detailed in 1969, I was a senior division cadet for arranging publicity with one lady ANO of Senior Division who was with us. Akashvani Kolkata, News Section deputed their representative for their newsreel program, the program executive was Upen Tarafder, recently he expired at Kolkata.
